Storyboard Text

  • Long ago, in a land that is now known as Wisconsin, A mama bear named Mishe Mokwa and her two cubs were caught in a forest fire.
  • While running away from the fire, the bears came up to a place where they could run no further, a big body of water known as Lake Michigan.
  • Mishe Mokwa knew that after the fire there would be no resources left for her and her cubs to survive so she knew that they would have to swim across the Great Lake to new land.
  • Heading East, the bears swam through that whole day and night. Eventually, the cubs started falling back from their mother.
  • Late the next day, Mishe Mokwa sighted the white dunes of Michigan. She climbed the dune and couldn't sight her cubs. She called and called for them.
  • In the horizon, she watched as she saw her cubs drown in the lakes waves. Heartbroken, she lied there for days watching the places in the water where her cubs vanished.
