  • Chapter 7
  • “He stood there until nightfall, and I waited for him. When we went in the house I saw he had been crying; his face was dirty in the right places, but I thought it was odd that I had not heard him.” (Scout)
  • Chapter 8
  • “As we drank our cocoa, I noticed Atticus looking at me, first with curiosity, then with sternness. ‘I thought I told you and Jem to stay put,’ he said. (Scout)
  • FIRE!!
  • Chapter 9
  • “If you shouldn’t be defendin’ him, then why are you doin’ it?" (Scout)
  • Shut up about Atticus!
  • Jem goes to receive his pants from the Radley place, they've been stitched up and fixed. That scared him and he was in a bad mood for a week. They found more items in the tree and a week later the hole was filled with cement. Jem cries at the end.
  • Chapter 10
  • "Atticus is a gentleman, just like me!" (Jem)
  • The children wake up to find snow in their backyard., school was cancelled so they decided to make a snowman. When Atticus got home, the kids showed him their masterpiece. Miss Maudies house caught on fire and scout had a mysterious blanket put over her shoulders.
  • Chapter 11
  • Students at school start saying that Atticus "defends niggers." When Scout asks why, Atticus says he's defending a black man named Tom Robinson. Uncle Jack comes down to Maycomb. Alexandra and her awful grandson Francis. At Finch's landing, Francis calls Atticus a "nigger-lover." Scout punches him.
  • Jem and Scout think their dad is old. The kids learn that Atticus can shoot but he doesn't brag about it
  • Ms. Dubose harasses Jem and Scout and Jem cuts down all of her flowers, and Atticus makes Jem read to her every afternoon. She passes way due to drug over dose and leaves a flower for Jem as thanks.
  • ¨The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience.¨ (Atticus)
