  • Fall of Rome and Start of the Medieval(middle) Ages
  • ARGH!
  • DIE!
  • Separated Kingdoms
  • United by One Man
  • As ruler I now command all of this kingdom.
  • After the fall of Rome, Germanic Franks(tribes) took over. They created separate kingdoms and waged wars to claim more land. 
  • Form of Government
  • The Franks took land and created separated kingdoms. The borders were always changing from the constant wars.
  • Lives of Serfs
  • Bread, serf!
  • Charlemagne was a binding force of a man. He was crowned ruler by Pope Leo II after coming to his aid during an uprising in Rome. 
  • Lord and Their Vassals
  • Yes, Yes now run along.
  • Feudalism was the form of government that was put into motion. It put people under a status quo and one could never go up or down it. The gov. is usually represented by a pyramid. On the top is the king followed by church officials and nobles. Then it is knights and merchants. Lastly the majority of the population was peasants and serfs.
  • Serfs were laborers like slaves. They had to give most of the food and goods to their lord. Serfs couldn't even leave their lords land. They could buy their freedom, but they weren't given any education or skills to earn that money. 
  • Yes, Sire.
  • The lord gave land and protected his vassal's family.  In return the vassal paid taxes to the lord and gave military services. 
  • Your tax sire.
