Storyboard Text

  • Thoughts
  • Actions
  • Words
  • Joby is scared and doesn't think that he can succeed ,Joby is also timid and doesn't feel like he can do much for the army,   "Me, thought the boy, I got only a drum, two sticks to beat it, and no shield". "Joby is timid and was a solemn face, but he is faithful"
  • Feelings
  •
  • The relationship between Joby and the army is that he is the drummer boy and, "He is the heart of the army." Joby comands them to march or halt, to surrender or fight, this means that Joby plays a significant role in the army, "Joby is faithful and optimistic".
  • Dynamic Character
  • Some of the words that Joby exchanges with the general are about how long Joby has been with the army , “What’s your name, boy?” he asked.“Joby,” whispered the boy,“How long you been with us, Joby?”“Three weeks, sir.”  Another thing that Joby talks about is him being the one who survives the war and goes back home, "Me, I’m the one, I’m the one of all the rest won’t die. I’ll live through it. I’ll go home. The band will play. And I’ll be there to hear it.
  • Theme
  •
  • Joby feels like his family is slowly drifting away form him and he would like to be home with them, "the boy felt his family move yet farther off away in the dark, as if one of those great prairie‑burning trains had chanted them away never to return, leaving him with this drum"  I can also say that Joby is "optimistic and he wants to see his family"
  • Joby had a big change in feeling from just being a drummer boy " Me, thought the boy, I got only a drum, two sticks to beat it, and no shield", to being the general of the army, "Do you know now you’re general of the army when the General’s left behind?” The boy nodded mutely.“You’ll run them through for me then, boy?” “Yes, sir.”. I can see that "Joby was timid but now he is optimistic".
  • The theme of the story is it takes courage and optimism to get were you want to be.   This is the theme statement because at fist Joby was just "A boy with a drum and two sticks to beat it" then he had the courage to lead the army and he had to have optimism to keep him on the right path to his goal, becoming the general.   I can say that " Joby is optimistic and that Joby is faithful.
