President John Quincy Adams' friends voted for him then he gave them jobs in the White House. Andrew Jackson accused him of corrupt bargain and buying his way into presidency.
1828- South Carolina nullification
A protective tax/tariff was passed, it lowered manufacturing and raised raw materials. The tariff helped the North but hurt the South.
1832- Worcester vs. Georgia
Andrew Jackson was a president for the common man, expanded suffrage, and shifted power to the common man. But he also forced the Cherokee to move to other lands and wanted all of the power, almost like a monarch.
1836- Trail of Tears
South Carolina threatened to secede because a protective tariff was too high and hurt all the Southern states.
The state of Georgia wanted to imprison a missionary for living with the Cherokee and have the Cherokee under their law. The court ruled that Georgia didn't have the power to move the Cherokee. Jackson forcefully moved them West of the Mississippi river.
President wanted the Cherokee's land, promised them provisions and land in the West. The Cherokee were moved during winter and many died.
