Mrs Johnsn had to think of something like a job even though she knows she cant get a job at the town's cotton gin or lumber mill. Mrs Johnson had an idea if them working for her.
She told herslef she wasnt a fancy cook but could mix groceries well. So she wanted to see if she was ready one morning and placed two stones into five-gallon pails and carried them three miles to the cotton gin.
On the way back to her house to her children she dumped the remaining rocks from her bag along the path. That night Ms. Johnson worked early hour cooking chicken and frying ham.
The next morning Ms. Johnson brought lots of food and most workers bought them for a nickel each. She balanced her work between the two hours of activity. Monday she sold fresh pies at the cotton gin and the remaining pies went to the lumber mill for three cents.
