Montressor leaves Fortunato to die.
After getting him from the party, Montressor gets Fortunato into his home. He explains how he got his servants out of the house. He also has Fortunato extremely drunk.
Montressor is walking Fortunato deeper underground and keeps him drinking. At one point, Fortunato actually made fun of Montressor without even noticing it. Montressor continues to use reverse psychology.
Montressor tricks Fortunato to get into the a room where he thinks the Amontilado is. When in the room, Montressor puts a chain around his ankle and locks him in the room by building a wall. He almost changes his mind to good but decides to keep going and leaves him to die.
