- The old man was disapointed to find it was not Lenore outside his chamber door, but he was so lonely he was glad the raven showed up outside his chamber door.
- The old man tried to talk to the raven, but every time it only replied with one word; nevermore.
- The old man is becoming frusterated because Lenore has returned for nevermore. He wants this raven to leave forevermore, but the raven perched outside his chamber door repeats once again, nevermore.
