Taking place in Alabama during the Depression, Scout Finch and her brother Jem are interested in the mysterious Boo Radley, making mini-plays, attempting to communicate with him and even trying to climb over the fence. They discover presents left in a hole in a tree near their house, only for the hole to be filled up one day.
Scout and Jem's father, Atticus, is a lawyer who takes on a case in which a black man (Tom Robinson) is accused of the rape of a white girl, Mayella Ewell. This is challenging because of the racial prejudice during this time.
