  • Jeanette Man vs. Man
  • LORI Man vs Man
  • Maureen Man vs. Man
  • After Jeanette insulted her mom, and not apologizing her dad decided to punish her by whipping her with her belt. This is a critical scene for Jeanette because this event soon became a catalyst for her to want to leave Welch.
  • Jeanette Man vs Man
  • Once Rex ruined Lori's clay bust of William Shakespeare, she went into a complete mode of rage, running on about how he had ruined her chance to get scholarships for college. At this point. Lori was determined to leave Welch.
  • Jeanette Man vs Man
  • After mom decided it was time that Maureen gain some self sufficiency, Maureen got very upset and stabbed Rosemary, her mom. This is man vs man because mom suggests something that Maureen does not agree with, so Maureen goes against her mom, in a very violent way.
  • In this scene Jeanette is hiding behind a tool shed when Billy Deel comes up to Jeanette and asks her if she's ever kissed anyone. As time goes on Billy kisses Jeanette, without Jeanette wanting him to. While Billy was on top of Jeanette she bit his ear, then he hit her face. After more arguing, Billy then gets up and yells "I raped you.". 
  • In this scene, Jeanette is yelling at her mother because she refuses to go to work and doesn't want to have to deal with the responsibilities of taking care of her family. This moment made Jeanette that realize that since no one else was wanting to help her family, mainly her and dad, she had to take things into her own hands and take careened provide for the family herself.
  • In this scene Rosemary is trying to give Jeanette a sock with her paycheck, so she doesn't have to cash it like Rex want her to. "Hide it where no one can get it, because you know how scarce socks can get in our house." said Rosemary "Goddamnit, Rose Mary," Dad snapped. "Do you think I'm a fucking idiot?" (Walls 77) Here you can tell that Rex can tell what Rosemary was up to.
