Reconstruction was 12 years after the Civil War. On that 12th year it was very difficult for America. Reconstruction was an increase freedom for former slaves. However there was much conflict between the North and South. The question is, who killed Reconstruction.
The South was abusive and brutal. The South was apart of the (KKK) which is the Ku Klux Klan. In (doc a) the kkk group killed John Stephens stabbing and hanging him. The South also didn't want to connect back to America. John was not liked by the KKK group because he was a legislative. Not all Southerns were like this some were apart of the Scalawags. Which meant they supported Reconstruction.
The North also played a role during this time. Many Northern voters shifted their attention to such national concerns as the panic of 1873 and corruption in Grants administration. The North would get busy with scandals and this would began to turn against Reconstruction policies. Which would cause Grants focus to split. North would always observe corruption in the federal govt. that was close to home.
In my opinion I think the South killed Reconstruction. One the biggest example was in (doc a). When the KKK group killed John Stephens. Also they would threaten blacks to not vote for Radical tickets. If they didn't they would get killed. The South would always want to stop Reconstruction. A lot of the Southerns wouldn't connect back to America.
