Storyboard Text

  • I know you can't see me from there but I am sediment. Erosion and weather caused rocks to break up and then I was deposited here.
  • Through lithification, which means I will compact under pressure and eventually become solid rock, I will become a sedimentary rock.
  • As a sedimentary rock I will slowly move below the earth's surface and then experience heat and pressure building up. This will cause metamorphism and I will become a harder, metamorphic rock.
  • Moving even further down below the earth's surface the temperature will increase and I will began to melt and turn into magma.
  • I am now magma and through crystallization or consolidation I will become an igneous rock.
  • I have become an intrusive igneous rock when magma cooled and crystallized.
  • I am magma that is being pushed out of the earths surface through a volcano. I will come out onto the surface as lava and when I cool I will be an extrusive igneous rock.
  • As an intrusive igneous rock I will either be uplifted back to the earths surface then broken back into sediment again or I will stay underground and become a metamorphic rock through metamorphism.
  • As an extrusive igneous rock I will either sink below the earths surface and become a metamorphic rock due to pressure and heat or I will become sediment due to erosion and weather.
  • Either way the rock cycle will continue!
