Job was a very wealthy man; he had seven sons and three daughters. He had lots of camels and servants and he was a righteous man.
Satan said to God that Job would not be so righteous if God did not give him all of those blessings. His theory was that Job only worshipped God because of his wealth. God disagrees and tells Satan that he can inflict suffering onto Job as long as he does not kill him; Job will not lose faith.
Job loses everything, all of his livestock die and all ten children die too. His body gets boils and cuts all over and he scrapes them off with pieces of broken pottery.
Job's wife tells him to curse God and die and his friends stay with him to visit. They are unconvinced that Job has not done anything to anger God; they believe that you are only punished when you sin. Job tries to stay faithful but he has lost everything and begins to question God.
God comes to Job in the form of a storm cloud but does not give Job a direct answer to why he is suffering, however, he does show Job how grand and big the world is. Job realises that he cannot possibly comprehend how the world works as it has so much detail. He regains his faith and continues to worship God.
satan sees that Job will continue to worship God no matter what and gives up. Job is rewarded by God and gets his animals and servants back twice over. He even has ten more children with his wife and even though it is not the same he is happy. He lived until he was 210.
