  • We did it!!!
  • The planes brought in 2.3 million tons of food,fuel,medicine, and even Christmas presents that the crews' bought with their own money.
  • West Berlin wouldn't have survived without the airlift. By May 1949 Stalin realized he was defeated and lifted the blockade.
  • The berlin blockade caused Western Europe to fear the Soviet Union, causing Western European nations to form an alliance.
  • The alliance was also known as NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) which consisted of 12 nations- Belgium,Denmark,France,Great Britain,Iceland,Italy,Luxembourg,Netherlands,Norway,Portugal,U.S.A,and Canada.
  • For the first time in history the U.S had entered into a military alliance with other nations.
  • By 1955 Greece,Turkey,and West Germany joined the NATO which increased the troop size to over 500,000 soldiers. The Cold War was officially over.
