Democritus was born around 460 BC. In 430 BC he proposed the idea of the atom, but was unable to prove it. What was he going to do?
Hello, Sir, I have this amazing idea that everything is made up of atoms.
ATOMS?!? What on earth are you talking about? Prove it and I will believe you.
Democritus kept on working towards proving the existence of the atom, but because the year was 430 BC he was very limited to his resources.
Democritus died about 60 years late in 370 BC at around the age of 90 years old (that's really old!). He was never able to prove the idea of the atom but he died in hope that someone would eventually prove his idea.
But, over time someone was able to prove that the atom really did exist, his name was John Dalton.
OVER 2,000 YEARS LATER!
(It took a LONG time)
John Dalton was born in 1766 and was on a mission to prove the existence of the atom.
