Storyboard Text

  • Webster: Massachusetts
  • Hayne: South Carolina
  • Recharter
  • Although the Indian Removal Act of 1830 allowed for westward expansion, it was unfair because it broke previous treaties with the Native Americans, moved them into completely new territory, and broke their rights to the land.
  • Although the Nullification theory should have brought peace between the North and South, it demonstrated the growing divide between the North and South because it brought the threat of seceding from the union, contributed to arguing over the constitution's rights being for the people, not the states, and caused President Jackson to pass the Force Bill of 1833.
  • Although the Bank of the United States favored the rich, It should have been rechartered because by putting money in pet banks the economy struggled, it interfered with foreign and American stockholders, and because the president does not have the power to declare the BUS unconstitutional, that is the role of the Supreme Court.
  • Although Andrew Jackson claimed to represent the people, he should be remembered as King Andrew because he treated Native Americans unfairly, caused a growing divide between the North and the South, and because he caused the Panic of 1837 by refusing to recharter the bank.
