  • Don't take Sicily!
  • Don't take control of the Mediterranean and prevent us from expanding!
  • Oh no! We don't have a navy!
  • Make one!
  • Okay, but pay up.
  • Peace! Please!
  • Carthage was scared of Romans taking over Sicily, and Romans were scared of Carthage’s army controlling the Mediterranean.
  • We don't have the right equipment!
  • The First Punic war took place. It began on 264 B.C. and lasted about 23 years. At first, Rome had no navy, but they quickly built one.
  • We may not have power, but we are independent!
  • After 23 years of war, Carthage finally asked for peace. Rome made them pay all the damage repairs that they caused and Rome won the war.
  • We beat Macedonia!
  • We beat everyone!
  • The second war took place soon after. It happened in 218 B.C. in Spain, Hannibal. They assembled a huge army that included foot soldiers, horse soldiers, and elephants. At that time Rome did not have the equipment to beat the Hannibal army.
  • At the battle of Zama, was when Rome finally beat them, and they made Carthage pay one again. Carthage remained independent, but lost all of its power.
  • The last Punic War happened in 149 B.C. The Romans decided to crush Carthage and declare was on their enemy. To get revenge, Rome attacked Macedonia as well. The greek cities cae under protection of the Romans and soon, Rome had control over the entire region.
  • We beat Carthage!
