Taylor and Micah had always been adventurous, so they decided to take a night trip onto the river.
As they paddled along, the sky started pouring out tumultuous rain they were not prepared for. They spun out of control down a waterfall!
They saw salvation once they looked up and seen a drawbridge. They had to scale the side of the cliff to get there but they didn't know how high up it was.
They had to use a trig function! They were looking at the cliff from a 57 degree angle and their boat was 5 feet away from it. Tan(57)*5=7.6It was only about 8 feet high.
As they crossed the bridge, they came to a dam. Micah tripped and was now in danger of falling off of the cliff.
Taylor had a rope that they had brought with them on their trip. She needed to know at what angle to throw it so he could latch on to safety. She is 5 feet away from him,and he is hanging 6 feet down. cos-1(5/6)= 33.5
They were looking at a 60 degree angle and standing 8 feet away so tan(65)*8= about 18 feet high. They climbed the tree and alerted the rescue team.
After feeling like they'd been walking for hours, they looked up and heard a rescue helicopter. They had to climb the tree in order to be saved.
Micah and Taylor were happy they remembered their trig, after all it got them out of a sticky situation.
