  • But what if thy compromise helps to expand thy slaves
  • The Missouri compromise could potentially give the southerners the upper foot and it would upset the balance.

  • Northerners thought that the federal government should be able to decide weather or not they would be free or slave states, not congress.

  • Thou states should be of able ability to choose thine own rights
  • Northerners feared that the compromise would help to expand slave situation instead of preventing it.

  • The southerners supported it because Missouri could give the south the upper hand.
