Women didn't have much freedom in certain cities. But west they had more of a chance to be something and have a job or publish newspapers. Married women were not aloud to make up wills, take part in legal transactions or control any money. Men could even beat their wives which was very unfair.
The underground railroad was an escape route for the slaves in the south. It freed blacks mainly. Abolitionists worked together to create this underground route. Wesring disguises fugitives moved along the railroad at night. And stopped during the day to rest.
Slavery was a very awful way of living. You belonged to a wealthy land owner who was pretty high up. If you attempted to do something wrong or if you did something wrong you would get whipped. When they would be sold at slave auctions you would be chosen by the amount of scars on your back. If there were many it meant they didn't listen much. Families were often split up.
