  • Clerc and Gallaudet meet
  • Hi my name is Clerc! welcome to my class in Paris.
  • Hi my name is Gallaudet.
  • Clerc and Gallaudet go to America
  • On our way to America. This is how you sign hello.
  • I am enjoying learning you language. 
  • They meet Alice
  • Clerc and Gallaudet were intoduced to each other. Later Clerc invited Gallaudet to the class he was teaching in Paris.
  • Teaching and raising money
  • They taught each other their languages on they 52 day voyage. They arrived in Hartford on August 22, 1816.
  • The First School
  • They meet Alice Cogswell soon after they arrive and they communicate to her using sign associations.
  • Expanding ASL
  • They went out and informed people and taught them. Clerc with Gallaudet as the interpreter and sometimes alongs with Cogswell. They raised 12,000 dollars from the public.
  • On April 15, 1817 they rented some rooms to start the Connecticut Asylum at Hartford for the Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Person. They started out with 7 students.
  • Clerc was the head teacher and Gallaudet was the principal, only a year after the school was filled with students. Clerc and Gallaudet did a lot for the language. Clerc did 50 years of teaching and helped open and work at more schools.
