  • Citizens felt that  the Old Regime was outdated and tired.

  • Wow, we just wrote the first constitution for France! It will be named Declaration of the Rights of Man.
  • After being locked out of a meeting, the third estate met in the tennis courts.
  • Guillotine
  • They vowed they would not leave until they had a new constitution, and called this decision the Tennis Court Oath.
  • Robespierre on his Balcony
  • I am Robespierre, and the guillotine contributed to my reign of terror.
  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man was France's first constitution. The people of France thought they had gotten the change they wanted.
  • The Guillotine was a new way of execution. It was seen as progressive because everyone would die the same way.

  • Robespierre led the Reign of Terror. It was a violent time period and about 50,000 people died.
