In 1764 Parliament passed the Sugar Act, which lowered the tax on the molasses the colonist imported.

In 1765 Parliament passed the Stamp Act. This law taxed almost all printed materials such as newspapers, wills, and even playing cards needed a stamp to show that the tax had been paid. The Stamp Act outraged colonist.

In 1767 Parliament passed the Townshed Acts to tax imports such as glass, tea, and paper. This tax was paid when the goods arrived before they were brought into the colonies.

On march 5, 1770, violence erupted. A fight broke out between some Bostonians and soldiers.The angry townspeople surged forward throwin g sticks and stones and when a soldier fell a nervous redcoat fired. They killed five colonist.The colonist called it the Boston Massacre

In 1773 three tea ships loaded with tea arrived in Boston Harbor. On December 16, Boston Son of Liberty and colonist dressed as Native Americans boarded the ships and threw 342 chests of tea overboard.
