  • ODE ON A GRECIAN URN - JOHN KEATS
  • In the first stanza, the narrator is observing a Grecian urn and the stories on it.

  • He notices an image of two young lovers under a tree. The man is playing a mesmerizing song on pipes.
  • This stanza shows that the couples love will last forever because they are frozen in time. 
  • This scene shows a priest leading a heifer to be sacrificed. He wonders where they’re going and imagines the empty village.
  • In the final stanza, the narrator concludes that even when generations die, the urn and people in the scenes will last forever.
  • The theme of this poem is the timelessness historical artifacts have. Even if the creator of it is gone, the art still lasts.
