Reconstruction Era Amendments Hanna Satterfield Period 4
What Was the Reconstruction?
The Reconstruction was a period of rebuilding that occurred after the end of the Civil War. It was a time filled with questions and uncertainty. There were endless debates over who was going to control the reconstruction the president or the radical republicans and how to deal with the South- the North wanted to punish them while the South wanted to preserve their way of life.
Reconstruction Era Amendments
During the Reconstruction, three amendments were ratified. As the Civil War had just come to an end, the amendments can all be connected because they all have to do with the rights of African-Americans and other non-white individuals. Each amendment, slowly gave people of other races the rights and freedoms that white citizens had all along- freedom, citizenship, and suffrage.
