  • Henry Molaison. -27 years old - He had become so incapacitated by his seizures that he could not lead a normal life and anti-convulsant medication did not help him 
  • He suffered from anterograde amnesia. 
  • Milner visited HM after the operation
  • Bicycle accident 
  • William Scoville (neurosurgeon ), performed an experimental surgery where he removed tissue from the medical temporal lobe on both sides of HM's brain
  • Brenda Milner: - Neuropsychologist who studied HM until he died in 2008. 
  • She observed that he forgot daily events nearly as fast as they occurred.  
  • He was ask to perform a star drawing tasks (procedural memory) 
  • I am able to remember my house and I can draw a picture of the floor plan of my new home. 
  • I remember going to Florida with my parents. 
  • HM described his own state "like waking from a dream ; everyday us alone in itself' (Milner 1968)
  • This suggest that the brain structures that were removed from his brain are important for long-term explicit memory. 
  • He could not acquire new episodic knowledge and new semantic knowledge. 
  • Showed thqt he had some of the components of what is called the spatial processing network, which includes part of the areas around the hippocampus, 
  • Corkin performed a brain scan with an MRI in 1997.
