  • Hey guys, today I will talk about," Acid Rain"- how it is made and its effects. it is pretty much like us teenage high school students, so let's hear its story. Have FUN!
  • So the main factors causing acid rain are -Car smokes, Fossil Fuel Factories, lightning, volcano eruptions etc. This is because these produce Nitrogen Oxide, Sulfur dioxide and Carbon dioxide which are all harmful gases. Nitrogen, Sulfur and Carbon form strong bonds with Oxygen to fulfil their octet, just like we friends have strong friendship bonds.
  • As we know that most gases can dissolve in water and can make solutions, Nitrigen Oxide, Sulfur Dioxide and Carbon Dioxide mix with water to make harmful acids. These are Carbonic acid, Sulfuric acid and Nitric acid. These acids are harmful and can damage us if at a high concentration. The gases dissolve in water just like we make more new friends and create bonds which are sometimes really hard to break.
  • Just like most of the liquids evaporate, these acids also evaporate and form acid clouds in the atmosphere. When they reach a certain height, they become cooler and precipitate back as acid rain.
  • This acid rain can corrode buildings constructed with carbonates, as seen in the case of Taj Mahal. It can be detrimental to the delicate marine coral reefs as they are build up of calcium base. The flora is also affected by this acid rain as most of the plants cannot survive in highly acidic conditions. So bullies in school can be compared to the acid rain as they both have a negative impact on us !
  •  We can partially control the impacts of acid rain, however, we cannot stop it completely. This can be done by going GREEN and making sustainable life choices, such as carpooling and use of public transport. Switching over to the renewable sources of energy instead of fossil fuels and by being a good student by creating awareness about the impacts of acid rain and encouraging the youth to be proactive to save the environment.
