  • Schaffer and Emmerson demonstrated that children go through various stages of atachment. 
  • STAGE 2: INDISCRIMINATE (2-7 months)
  • The infant produces similar responses towards humans and non-human objects. They generally don't prefer specific people and will smile at anyone.

  • The infant is happier in the presence of humans than when alone.

  • The infant prefers people rather than inanimate objects
  • Infant becomes more sociable, are relatively comforted by anyone and don't show a strong preference for specific people. Don't show separation or stranger anxiety.
  • Infant shows stranger anxiety and uses familiar adults as a secure base.
