Once there was a girl named Arachne, she was the daughter of a tradesman who spent his day dying cloth the deepest shades of purple. At a very young age, she taught herself how to weave.
She soon discovered she was naturally talented at weaving. As Arachne grew more and more famous for her blessed talent, people from all around Greece, started coming to her house to see her work.
Have you heard of the weaver Arachne? She is supposed to be very good. Let's go see her!
Yes, lets go!
All the fame started to get to Arachne’s head. She started to believe, that she was better than the gods.
I am the best weaver there ever was, and I will always be the best. No one can beat me in weaving, no mortal or god!
Athene overheard this from olympus and was furious.
Some mortal girl thinks she is better than me at weaving? We shall see if this mortal is as good a weaver as she claims.
Back at her house Arachne was still bragging about her skill when an old woman came in and told her that her gift came from the goddess Athene and she should be more greatful.
The gods have done nothing for me, I found this gift all on my own, and I am best at weaving.
You need to respect the gods missy, you never know if they could be listening, after all your gift was blessed from them.
