  • "At daybreak Rainsford, lying near the swamp, was awakened by the sound that made him know that he had new things to learn about fear. It was a distant sound, faint and wavering, but he knew it. It was the baying of a pack of hounds."
  • The setting is when Rainsford is on a yacht and is looking for a mystical island.How this quote effects the conflict is because he is looking for a mystical island but can't see it because it is to dark.
  • Rainsford realizes that he has to face the general. How this effects the conflict is Rainsford didn't want to face the general, but he knows that the general won't consider the fact that Rainsford doesn't want to have to face the general.
  • Rainsford thought that he had escaped the general. Than once he heard that distinct sound, he had become to a whole new level of fear.This effects the conflict because he thought that he had overcome his fear with the general.Than he saw that there was a whole new level of fear.
