Robert E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807 in Stratford Hall, Virginia. He married Mary Custis in 1831 and had seven children.

Lees job as an engineer in the army kept him far from home so he couldn't see his family often. But this is how he provided for them.
I surrender my army
Tension grew between the north and the south about the topic of slavery, this wasn't good knowing he was in the army and didn't see his family too much. He didn't want to go to war, but if he had to he'd be ready.

He was a great general.
On April 12, 1961 the Civil War began, but Robert wasn't exactly a general yet, he was still an engineer until 1862 where he started to lead an army. He lead his army to the first battle in the spring of 1983.
On April 9, 1865 Robert E. Lee surrendered his army on the battle of Appomattox Court House because the battle lasted eleven days and he didn't want to lose any more men because he knew he had no chance.
Robert E. Lee died on October 12, 1870 in Lexington, Virginia.
