Samuel: Samuel: I am very tired and these 18 hour jobs are too much. I wish we didn't have to do this.
William: We have to think of the family. Mom and dad says this will help us.
Samuel: I don't want the same thing to happen to me that happened to Thomas. His head light went out and he was stuck down here overnight and the rats ate what little food he had.
William: Just be careful and watch what you are doing and tell me where you go at all times.
Samuel: Did you see all the new younger kids joining the coal mines? Some are even younger than us, like seven year olds. All these kids will help make the work easier but we will get paid even less. I hope none of them get hurt.
William: I hope it doesn't get to crowded. Hopefully, the people petitioning us working this much will work and we won't have to stress as much as we do.
