One instance of religion and science going against each other is Galileo(on the left)saying that the Earth is not the center of the universe and that the Earth moves. The priest(on the right) is getting mad at Galileo for saying such things because it going against the Catholic Church.
Galileo(on the left) is being put on trial for commiting heresy. The priest(on the right) is putting Galileo on trial. The reasons for this is about Galileo's statements on the Earth not being the center of the universe and that the Earth moves.
Galileo was guilty for his crime against the church and was sentenced to do three things for the Catholic Church. The first thing he had to do was tell the public that all his beliefs about the Earth not being the center of the universe and that the Earth moves were made up.
Another sentencing that Galileo had to follow was that he had to recite the seven Potential Psalms once a week, every week, for three years.
Galileo was later found guilty for his crimes against the church and was sentenced to imprisonment for life.
Another order that the Catholic Church wanted to do was to prohibit Galileo's book, Dialogues of Galileo Galilei, from the public and ordered that no one should ever read the book again.
