Socrates is an undergraduate student at Columbia College, majoring in Earth and Environmental Studies.
As most high-achieving students, Socrates spends most of his days in class and long nights studying in Butler library. With very little free time, he often eats on the go.
Among the variety of food options near campus, Socrates loves the local salad spot Spicy Spinach. Here he is able to snag well-balanced, locally sourced food, but for a premium price. Ever the economist and enivornmentalist, he is uncomfortable with daily expense and also with the amount of trash that he generates from his take-out order. He also often finds himself wondering, "where does all the ugly produce go?"
One day during his habitual walk from Butler to Broadway, his path is blocked by a trendy looking food truck labeled, "Ugly Foods." Intrigued by the variety of produce visible through the truck's windows, he stops to investigate.
He is pleasantly surprised by the discovery! Locally sourced ugly food transformed into delicious, reasonably priced smoothies! He even has the option to use his own thermos (zero trash)! Socrates, thrilled by this new find, tweets about it to all of his classmates.
@ColumbiaEarthNerds Guys! I discovered the coolest thing!
The next day, there is a line around the block of socially-conscious consumers eager to try a bite of "Ugly Food." Socrates secretly wishes he had kept his discovery to himself!
