  • We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: "For Whites Only."
  • Logos
  • I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
  • Ethos is shown through the biblical allusion in the speech. The stereotypical view of someone who is religious and active in church is trustworthy and genuine. Martin Luther King Jr. uses biblical elements to show good character and reliability using the existing stereotype of Christianity.
  • The references to children in the speech show pathos. Children are close to people's hearts and show love and innocence. Martin Luther King Jr. use extensive imagery of children being segregated and discriminated against created a sense of sympathy and sadness towards the cause.
  • The intellectual reference to the Declaration of Independence show logos. The reasoning that Martin Luther King Jr. shows logic and intelligence. The Declaration of Independence is a well-known document and the power that its words hold is valuable which helps broadcast the intellect of King.
