Starr lives in a predominitly african american neighborhood, but she goes to a very "white" school. Starr was very well known for her skin color and her unique shoes she wears with her uniform. She has been going to the school for six years.
Starr went to a party with her good friend Kenya. She didn't know anyone that attended the aprty so she kind of just hung out. Then, after awhile Starr's child hood friend Khalil, came up to her, and all of a sudden theres being shots fired.
As Khalil and Starr leave the party their are pulled over by a police officer. Police officer 115, tells Khalil to step out and keep his hands on the car and pats him down several times. The officer then walks to his own car, and Khalil goes to the passenger side to check on Starr, and the officer shot Khalil three times and killed him.

An ambulance and a few more police cars arrive and Starr's parents come and oick her up to take her home. After getting rid of her bloody clothes and going to sleep Starr remembers her childhood fried Natasha, who dies from a drive by shooting. Her parents are really concerned considering she was the only person around besides Officer 115 who saw the incident.
Starr's dad goes to the grocery store for work and Kenya , Starr's friends' dad wanted Maverick, Starr's dad to hold drugs for him. Maverick didn't want to take part of anything illegal in the store so he told him "No"

On Sunday morning, Starr and her dad pay their respects to Khalil's grandmother who raised him. It was very hard for her because she was fighting cancer and chemotherapy wasn't helping her at all. They felt very sorry for her and what she was going through at the moment.
