In Paris, France around the 1800's, a young poor woman wishes that she was wealthy and rich. One day, he husband came home with an invitation to a formal party. She is beyond happy to attend, but is sad that she has nothing to wear, and thinks she will look bad.
Mathilde Loisel is not as rich as she sreams to be. Her husband though, gave her money to buy a nice dress, but she isn't satisfied until she asks a rich friend, Madame Forestier to borrow something, like a necklace.
My life has been awful because of the necklace I borrowed ten years ago...
At the party, Mathilde Loisel is getting recognize by her beautiful necklace, but it later goes missing. Days after searching, they don't find it. Her and her husband decide to replace it by buying an identical one to it which costs a lot of money, which takes them 10 years to pay off.
Oh dear! The necklace was false honey!
After ten years of paying the necklace that they had bought to replace the borrowed one, the couple now live in "peace" as they do not have to suffer anymore.
One day, Mathilde is walking to the market and sees her old friend, Madame Forestier, she goes up to her and tells her what happens
Madame Forestier tells Mathilde that the necklace she let her borrow was actually fake...
