  • "The question before the House is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country. "
  • "Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their salvation? "
  • " And judging by the past, I wish to know what there has been in the conduct of the British ministry for the last ten years to justify those hopes with which gentlemen have been pleased to comfort themselves and the House."
  • Patrick Henry is showing how he cant stay silent anymore and because he loves his country he has to speak up and make a change against England. The appeal being used is Pathos because he is using emotion and heart to persuade people to listen. He is going to accomplish gaining more listeners because Pathos is a strong, powerful appeal.
  • "Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have implored its interposition to arrest the tyrannical hands of Parliament."
  • Patrick Henry is saying that the American people are not fools and need to be told the truth no matter what that might withhold. The appeal being used is Ethos because he is using credibility to persuade people to make a change. He is going to accomplish changing peoples mind and convincing them to take a stand.
  • "In vain, after these things, may we indulge the fond hope of peace and reconciliation? There is no longer any room for hope. If we wish to be free, we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of hosts is all that is left us! "
  • Patrick Henry is proving that the British are selfish and do not think for other people, he wants to be free from the tyrant. The appeal being used is logos because Henry is providing factual claims. By using this he will accomplish more people believing him because what he is saying is true.
  • "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death! "
  • Patrick Henry is showing the people that they have done everything they could to try and legally revolt against Britain's unfairness, but it hasn't worked so now they have to take it a step further. The appeal being used is logos because Henry is using credible information of the different methods they have tried. Henry will accomplish convincing people to take the next step against England.
  • Patrick Henry is proving that there is no more hope left in England, if they want to be free then they must fight for their rights. The appeal being used is logos because Henry is gaining respect by the expression of England's unfair actions. He will accomplish the listeners understanding and wanting to fight for the issue.
  • Patrick Henry is closing out his speech by saying that himself and the people demand freedom, fairness, and liberty. The appeal being used is pathos because he is drawing people in by persuading people to join the fight and gain their rightful rights. Henry will accomplish persuading people to join the movement and make a change.
