  • The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was a separate peace treaty signed on March 3, 1918, between the new Bolshevik government of Russia and the Central Powers, ended Russia's participation in World War I.
  • On June 28, 1914, Austria's Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo. The political purpose of the assassination was to separate the Austro Hungarian Empire from the Yugoslavian Province in order to merge into one Yugoslavia.
