  • Arabs speak Arabic. Their religious group is Islam, so they are Muslims. Some Arabs live in Southwest Asia while some live in North Africa.

  • Persians speak Persian or Farsi. Their religious group is Shi'a Islam. Some Perisians live in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
  • Persians
  • Kurds practice Sunni Islam, and they speak Kurdish which is related to Persian. Kurds live in Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Armenia, and Syria or Kurdistan. 
  • Kurds
  • In 204 CE, Philip the Arab is born. In 244 CE, Philip the Arab becomes the Roman Emperor. In 247 CE, Philip has a son named Augustus. Two years later, Philip is defeated and dies. In 636 CE, the Arabs are fighting in the Battle of Yarmuk, and crush a Byzantine army. In 640 CE, the Arabs invade Egypt. In 641 CE, the Arabs take Alexandria from the Byzantine Christians, and from 641 CE-646 CE, they kept fighting for Alexandria and Egypt. In 642 CE, Alexandria falls to the Arab Caliphate, and in 646 CE, Arab conquered Egypt. In 648 CE, Arab rules Cyprus, and in 649 CE, Arab Caliphate attacks Byzantine Cyprus. A Byzantine fleet was destroyed in 655 CE by the Arab Caliphate. In 659 CE, a peace treaty between the Byzantine Empire and the Arabs Caliphate was signed.
  •  In 600 B.C, the Persians settled in Iran. In 599 B.C, Cyrus the Great makes himself king, but dies in 530 B.C. His son, Cambyses, becomes king. He defeated an Egyptian army and adds Egypt to the Persian empire. Eventually, his own people end up killing him. Darius was a distant cousin of Cambyses and was the next person who took the throne. After his reign was over, Xerxes became the next king. Both Darius and Xerxes attempted to attack Greece, but both failed. They decided to stop trying to expand their empire, but they still ruled Turkey, Afghanistan, and Egypt. They ruled those three countries until they were conquered by Alexander the Great.
  • The Kurds are the largest ethnic group without their own nation. In the 7th century, they were conquered by the Arabs. In 1920, at the end of World War 1, the Ottoman Empire collapsed. The Treaty of Sevres promised a division of the Ottoman Empire to the Kurds, so they would have a homeland. Unfortunately for the Kurds, their deal was rejected. In 1925, the Kurds rebelled against Turkey. In 1961, the Kurds revolt against Iraq and their fighting continues for several years. In 1970, Iraq and the Kurds sign a peace agreement. In 1978, Abdullah Ocalan helped create the PKK to seek independence for the Kurds.
