  • Hey I heard you were having trouble working out what the trapezoidal means
  • Yes, and i need to know what it means for my maths test today.can you help me
  •  This is the formula you must remember
  • Formula:A= h\2 (a+b)
  • If theres a question on the test that asks you to use 'one application' heres what you do
  • Theres is actually two ways of using this formula, however one is much more accurate tham the other
  • Imagine that this is a pond and you need to work out the the area using 1 application of the trapezoidal rule.
  • Heres what you do!
  • A=h/2 (a+b)A= 20/2 X (4+8)A= 120cm
  • 4cm
  • 10cm     10cm
  • oh, that makes sense!!!
  • 12cm
  • 8cm
  • A=h/2 (a+b)
  • However if it asked you to answer the question by using 2 applications here is what you will do.JUST REMEMBER THAT THIS METHOD IS A LOT MORE ACCURATE
  • Total Area= 80cm+100cm
  • = 180cm squared
  • A1= 10/2 x (4+12)A1= 80cm squaredA2= 10/2 x (12+8)A2=100cm squared
