On February 15th, an explosion sank the U.S.S Maine. It killed 250 humans.
Treaty of Paris
McKinley hesitates for war even though they call for war! Peace was maintained.
The demands were compensation for the U.S.S. Maine, an end to re concentration camps, a truce in Cuba, and Cuban Independence.
The United States signed a treaty of Paris with Spain in December 1898. In the Treaty, the Spanish Government recognized Cuba’s Independence.
The United States gained the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the Pacific Island of Guam.
