  • On February 15th, an explosion sank the U.S.S Maine. It killed 250 humans.
  • Treaty of Paris
  • McKinley hesitates for war even though they call for war! Peace was maintained.
  • The demands were compensation for the U.S.S. Maine, an end to re concentration camps, a truce in Cuba, and Cuban Independence.
  • The United States signed a treaty of Paris with Spain in December 1898. In the Treaty, the Spanish Government recognized Cuba’s Independence.
  • The United States gained the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the Pacific Island of Guam.
