  • Falling Action
  • Melody, Pops, and her brother are going to their cabin in Glacier National Park. When they get there they are at a campfire and Pops is telling a storey about when he was 10 and was attacked by an animal. Melody thinks the animal it a grizzly bear, but Pops has quills in his leg. It was a porcupine!
  • Resolution
  • One night after a campfire,  Old Slim, a grizzly attacked their cabin. After the attack, Mel, her Aunt Cassie, and Steve, a wildlife scientist, go for a hike to a hotel on top of a mountain.  Melody went into the woods behind the hotel and a grizzly came out of her bushes after her.   She ran for a tree and climbed as fast as she could.  The branch her hand was on fell and she fell with it,
  • The bear is a foot away after she fell.  Mel heard something else in the bushes.  It was a porcupine that had big quills like metal spears!  The porcupine and the bear get in a fight and Mel had time to escape.
  • The people learned that the trash behind the hotel was causing the bears to come.  The park cleaned up the campgrounds and the trash. The Granite Park Chalet Hotel got a huge new incinerator for the trash.  The hotel manager was fired.  The rangers  patoled the park better.  The bear problem went away.
