The sun shown down on my back as I dug row after row in the dirt
I live in a small group of kanchas (small group of huts surrounded bye a external wall) Close to Nazca a major city in the Inca empire.
We are farmers we plant and harvest the taraces stretching up and down the hill sides around us
Every harvest we would store our crops in a big stone building until we had to pay the allyu when the government would take a portion of our crop to Cusco and from there to the emperor to be divided among the many people of the empire that did not farm
The crop being carted away was a sign of success it meant we were supporting the empire
However that was a long time from now. After digging the ditches for the potatoes which my sister began to plant i went to the canal that ran throughout the field
