After witnessing Jim trying to escape with the book, Mr Tan raised his voice and confronted him about trying to steal Damien's book. Out of pure shock, Jim froze and stuttered with his words and was at a loss of words. Cold beads of perspiration broke out across his forehead and trickled down his cheek in rivulets as he struggled to speak.
Just when Jim secured the book, Mr Tan had realised what he was trying to do and stopped him in his tracks. Jim's heart started thumping vigorously. He was completely taken aback and he could not react at all. He was as pale as a ghost.
Yes! This is my book now! Finally!
Mr Tan directed both of them to the office and demanded Jim to explain why they were brought up to the Discipline Office. Jim pleaded guilty rather shamefacedly. His eyes were brimming with tears, his face etched with misery. After understanding the situation, Damien's eyes narrowed with contempt, seething with rage. To Damien, this was unforgivable. Feeling betrayed, Damien burnt their bridges down and never crossed paths since.
