  • Ruth and Walter are arguing which introduces  the relationship that they share. As this continues, the significance becomes larger when we start seeing the effects it has on the rest of the family.
  • “Eat your eggs Walter”(Hansberry, 34)
  • "DAMN MY EGGS DAMN ALL THE EGGS!"(Hansberry, 34)
  • Momma receives a check in the mail from the death of her husband. This moment is when the youngers see a bright future ahead.
  • "Open it, Grandma!"(Hansberry, 68)
  • "Now you all be quiet. It's just a check."(Hansberry, 68)
  • Mama spent her money on a house for the family and she is informing them about the purchase. They are searching for new hope and a better life their.
  • "Now when you say your prayers tonight, thank God and your Grandfather 'cause it was him who gave you the house in his way."(Hansberry, 91)
  • Mama gives Walter the rest of the money she received. She is giving him the responsibility to be the man of the house.
  • "You trust me like that, Mama?"(Hansberry, 106)
  • Bobo comes to the apartment and tells Walter that Willy stole their money. The light the Youngers saw ahead is now gone.
  • "I'm talking about the fact that when I got to the train station Saturday morning-Willy didn't never show up."(Hansberry, 127)
  • Mama is proud of Walter and he is leaving up to the standards. While leaving for their new life, Walter is showing new hope also.
  • "He finally come to man hood today, didn't he? Kind of like a rainbow after the rain."(Hansberry, 151)
