In the old Regime, things were mostly run by the church. A lot of people were questioning the inequality and how King Louis XVI treated the people. The clergy were apart of the church and the nobles would sometimes talk about how things were going. The three estates were apart of the old regime because it was for help of the people to to improve the society.
In the enlightenment, the philosophers questioned the society. Everyone wanted freedom of religion and equality. In the enlightenment, the people wanted opportunities to be rich or poor when they were born. No matter what skin color they were.
The Meeting of the Estates General is when all the nobles, clergy, and the people talk about the government financial problems. They discussed how the society was being treated or how it was suppose to work. They were trying to make a better community. It was the turning point of the revolution. As you can see the clergy is the priest and the people with the the fancy clothes and white hair are the nobles. Then, obviously the people are dressed normally.
The third estate declared themselves as the National Assembly but the king did not recognize them as a real government body and denied them a meeting place, so they continued meeting at the tennis court. King Louis the fourteen was very mean for not letting them have their own opinions but that didn't stop them. They consistently took an oath to meet at the court.
Happened on July 14, 1789. Bastille was a fortress to protect Paris and the revolutionaries attacked because the third estate made demands of the king and they wanted a voice, so they did this and captured Bastille which officially began the revolution. The war deathly caused the French revolution or started it.
Women started this in a Paris market place and revolted because they want the bread to be at a fair price. Soon or later, there were thousands of marches that joined. This event gave the revolutionaries confidence in the power of the people over the king.
