The Chinese believe in the beginning of time there was nothing but chaos, during which, Heaven and Earth were entangled. It was common that a black egg was used as an analogy for how Heaven and Earth were created.
Inside the egg was a man named Pangu. He slept there for 18,000 years, during which Yin and Yang became balanced as he grew.
When Pangu finally awoke, he broke free from the egg. By doing so, Pangu tore apart Yin and Yang.
After Pangu broke free, the top half of the shell became the sky and the bottom became the Earth.
Pangu held the two halves apart with the help of a turtle, a phoenix, a qilin, a dragon, and a unicorn. The longer Pangu held the sky and the Earth apart, the larger they grew, and the taller he became.
After 18,000 years of holding the Earth and sky apart, Pangu died. His body became different parts of the world. For example, the parasites on his body became humans and they began inhabiting Earth.
