Storyboard Text

  • Man, it sucks that Mr. Downing gave us that project on Smallpox.
  • What do you mean?
  • Yeah. I done some of it, and it's really actually a very scary reality.
  • Wow! Really?
  • Well,Small Pox is a virus, officially called Variola, this virus is an airborne virus and could likely cause an epidemic.
  • Smallpox is only preventable and not treatable once somebody has it, and it only infects humans
  • But what does the virus do?
  • The Variola virus works just like most viruses, it attaches to a cell and uncoats, then it releases enzymes to replicate the virus and transcripts and finally releases to other cells.
  • Ooohhh...is Smallpox responsible for all those bumps that I see people have on the internet sometimes?
  • Yeah, Smallpox spreads through the bloodstream to the lungs, kidneys, skin, and brain.
  • Why is Smallpox such a big deal, didn't they find a vaccine? Isn't it a dead virus?
  • What makes Smallpox dangerous is the fact that is can't be cured once the virus is contracted by a human...it is only prevented, by a vaccine
  • Testing always has to go to a lab... the doctors have two options: either isolate the virus from the blood and test it, or test the antibodies made in response to the virus
  • So how do you test for this virus?
