  • "Oedipus, the mightiest head Among us all, all we thy supplicants Implore to find some way to succor us"
  • "Ah my poor children, what you come to seek is known already-not unknown to me" 
  • The man is dead; and now, we are clearly bidden To bring to account certain his murderers.
  • And where on earth are they? Where shall be found This dim-seen track-mark of an ancient crime?
  • The city of Thebes was facing great troubles after the death of King Laius. A plague has occurred and they don't know how to get rid of it. The priest has asked Oedipus, the new king if he can help the city.
  • Creon comes with news from the Gods and wants to tell Oedipus. He says that the only way to stop the plague was by finding Laius' murderer and exile or kill him. 
  • Theme: Freewill vs. Fate Throughout the story of Oedipus Rex, there are many people that test Freewill and fate. Fate will always come your way even if you choose to do your own thing at first.
